FPS Design Recon

Recon

Class: Marksman

The Marksman is the backbone of the Christan Army. Wielding different long ranged bows the Marksmen can damage enemies from afar and support the army. The Marksman are agile and swift and were little to no armor. They are easily defeated in close combat but they are supreme on distance.
The Marksman also have the different scout equipment to identify were the enemies are.
Becoming a Marksman requires extensive training from childhood. And most of them are because of this mercenary hired in by the armies and tend to were a less formal uniform.

Primary Weapon: (Long)Bow

Does very high damage with high range. Has to reload after each attack and is very hard to use in close combat.

Note: Its not historical correct that English longbow men existed before 1300, as they were deployed heavily first in 1346. (Hundred years war between the English and the French).

But clearly Longbows  have been around before that. Its mainly 2 important points with this weapon that defines it from other unlockable bows.
It is a very larges bow roughly the length of the person using it. Secondly it is not recurved, as many other bows were at the time(and some of the unblockabe bows will be).

I mainly call it Longbow to make it easy to understand what kind of weaponry it is. Simple said its a long range sniper weapon. It could be named something else, big bow, giant bow, Strongbow etc.

Unlockable upgrade 1: Fire Arrows

The Marksman light his arrows on fire before shooting them.
Requires longer time to reload, fire arrows can lit enemies on fire if they are soaked and several fire arrows can burn down barricades, boats etc.  Fire Arrows also light up small radius around where they hit (Better used During night)

Unlockable upgrade 2: Triple Arrow

The Marksman fires 3 arrows on the same time instead of one. Takes longer time to reload. The 2 side arrows cannot be aimed. They will fly in a split away from the main target, experienced users will be able to aim at 1+ target on the same time.
(Which I think is a really good expression fun factor for the user). This version depletes the ammunition 3 times as fast.

Unlockable Primary Weapon 1: Short RecurveBow

The first primary weapon unlockable for the Marksman change their main weapon to be far better in close combat but they lose a lot range.
Rapid Fire with much shorter range then the Longbow.
Moderate Damage dealt per arrow.

This weapon will be a good choice for the user who wants to be closer to the action and use the team-gadgets more efficient.

Unlockable Primary Weapon 2:  Reflex Bow

The Reflex bow deals slightly lower damage then the Longbow and has slightly lower range. However, it is far easier to handle on horseback and receives no penalties while riding.
The Reflex bow will be a good weapon to pick for a user who plans to really on using the vehicle Horse in the game.

Secondary Weapon: Misericorde

Fast attack, very limited range(shortest range in the game).  This blade thin enough so that it could strike through the gaps between armour plates and actually deals high damage.

Marksmen aren't really meant to be good in close combat they cant really defend themself at all but this weapon at least give them a chance to deal high damage but with a limited range (and the bows wont be good in close combat at all) they will have a hard time surviving close encounters.

Misericorde was a weapon used to deal the mercy blow to injured knights and is therefore unique to the Christian side Recon class.

Gadget: Spectacles

I wanted the Recon class to have a dutch telescope which they could use to discover were enemies are located.  As no weapon in the game has any scope ability. However when I was to find an image of the dutch telescope I realised it was not invented until the 17 century.... in my mind I was sure it was used since ancient time.
So instead I made the Marksman have Spectacles, which will give an slight increase in vision. However, to make them more usable they also point out to on all allies on the radar( I assume the game has radar, while not invented the users will have a very hard time to navigate in the game otherwise) where spotted enemies are. This is a synergy with some of the team-gadget the Marksman can have and overall an synergy with being able to aim with bows.

Spectacles: Give the Marksman an 30% increased in view distance and mark enemies and other important object such as a barber-pole(spawn point) on radar for the Marksman and all allies.

Note that this is supposed to be old complicated spectacles, meaning the user cant have them equipped and use them while using other object such as a bow. The user will have to use this scout item before shooting with a bow or other weapons such as a Ballista.

Team-play Gadget: Ammo Cart

The Marksman Team-Gadget is the Ammo Cart, which will replenish the allies ammunition and building material.

The Marksman being in the far back and requiring to shot huge number of arrows usually did have ammo carts at their squad location. Furthermore, I like this team-gadget on Marksmen to force them to go in close if they want to support their team as efficient as possible.

Unlockable Team-Gadget 1: Bonfire

The Marksman can build fire places, Bonfires. The Marksman only has material to build one. These Bonfire light up areas at night heavily. Giving the team vision. Furthermore spotted enemies(and other important object as with Spectacles) by the bonfire is shown on the Marksman and team mates Radar.

Unlockable Team-Gadget 2: Rain of Arrows

Marksman can call for support fire. A blast of arrows on as specific area.
This team-gadget can only be used once and wont be replenished by ammo carts. Furthermore it can only be used at a relatively close vicinity from the armies start point, e.g the village the Christians are defending.
To mark a place the Marksman has to be very close to the designated area.

Each arrow deals very low damage and its mainly effective to try and injure many enemies who have a built up a strong point close to for example a village. And as the Marksmen has to go in close its not an easy used team-gadget for effectiveness.

Class: Archer

The Archer is the counterpart to the Marksman. These men has trained their bow skills since early childhood mainly trough hunting. As Marksmen they were simple  flexible clothes to maximize their mobility. Furthermore as most of them are poor but skilled hunters they have simpler armor and less formal clothes then some of the other classes.

However, while the bow shapes should be the same they could have different decorations to give a more Scandinavian feel.

Secondary Weapon: Broken-back style Seax

The Archer uses a old style dagger called the Seax. More specifically the are wielding a Broken-Back syle Seax. These daggers were actually quite long and heavier then the regular knifes.

Same Range as the Marksman’s Misericorde but because of the weight they hit slightly slower then the Marskmen. But, with slightly more damage dealt.
